It is impossible for us to say exacly what the reason may be as there
can be very many different reasons, but what we can say is that
assigning a way too large cache_mem setting is a very common reason
why Squids run unexpectedly slow. For more information regarding the
cache_mem setting and how it should be set see the Squid FAQ chapter
on memory usage.
