Are you attempting to use authentication in a transparent intercepting
proxy? If you are then see squid.conf comments and the Squid FAQ.
If you are running an accelerator for your own web sites then
authentication can be enabled in the source. Details can be found in the
archives or provided on request, or you can try Squid-3 where this is a
non-issue for accelerators.
