And neither really tells anyting about how the system will behave with
Squid.

The Squid workload on the filesytem is considerably different from any
"normal" filesytem usage. This is why getting any feeling about filesystem
performance for Squid is best done by benchmarking Squid using the
excellent polygraph polymix-4 (or better) benchmark.
