SQUID is a http proxy only. If the application does not provide proxy-ing
via http solutions then you are out of luck.
SQUID can not handle none http traffic so to speak.
Whether or not http tunneling or http 'misuse' is a 'wanted' thing,
that's another discussion (indeed).
