[squid-users] Memory configuration

I am newbie in the caching arena.

O/S: Linux Suse 9
Architecture: Dual Intel Zeon 2.8
Physical Memory (RAM): 8G
Hard Drive Space: 72G
Squid Version: 2.5.STABLE6

I have a few questions concerning squid and RAM memory configuration.

Here are is my memory usage when I fire up squid.

        Request Disk Hit Ratios: 5min: 5.7%, 60min: 7.1%
        Storage Swap size: 144760 KB
        Storage Mem size: 58392 KB
        Mean Object Size: 9.77 KB
        Requests given to unlinkd: 0

Any ideas on why Mem size is so small ( 58392 KB )?

Here is some more output?

Memory usage for squid via mallinfo():
        Total space in arena: 80136 KB
        Ordinary blocks: 80038 KB 10 blks
        Small blocks: 0 KB 0 blks
        Holding blocks: 1784 KB 2 blks
        Free Small blocks: 0 KB
        Free Ordinary blocks: 97 KB
        Total in use: 81822 KB 100%
        Total free: 97 KB 0%
        Total size: 81920 KB

Again this doesn't look right.

My squid.conf for memory useage looks like this.

cache_mem 4000 MB

So This limit or set up my default ram limit right?
