The situation where you get Squid helpers around, not having the Squid
process ID as parent process is only if the helper is not handling EOF
properly.
The reasons to a helper not handling EOF properly can be any of
- Not handling EOF in the inpt loop
- The helper getting internally stuck on some operation
- Any other issue which may prevent the helper from operating properly.
