Yes, and thats fine.

The problematic part is if you want http://proxy.mydomain.com/folder1/
to point to http://backendserver2.my-domain.com/ (without the folder)
instead of http://backendserver2.my-domain.com/folder1/ or even more
preferred http://proxy.mydomain.com/folder1/ on the server
backendserver2.my-domain.com.
