The box is a Dual 2 core ( 4 core total) AMD 275.

So I should probably start 4 squids.

When I try to start the second one I get:

squid -f /etc/squid/squid2.conf
2007/07/02 16:08:03| Squid is already running! Process ID 448

Thank you very much for your help!!!

On what kind of server?

Squid can only use a single CPU core, so if this is a SMP or multi-core
server then you won't be able to fully utilize the CPU with a single
Squid instance..

Bug 500 10K requests/s sounds a little low..
