        I've been trying to replicate your problem, without any luck.

        One question: Do you do all of your mail-handling within Linux?
I used
        to do some e-mail work from Windows, and then transferred
attachments to
        my Linux box, and some text files (like Perl scripts) would turn
up
        without the proper conversions. Is this a possible source of
your problem?

        No. Mail handling is done by a MS Exchange Server which forwards
all SMTP mail to our ISP via the Linux box. but not via smail or
sendmail etc.

        Smail or Sendmail etc. hasn't been set-up, it's just purely
doing squid and DNS (plus I suppose firewalling).

        I think what your suggesting is possible. M$ do have some funny
ideas when it comes to implementing protocols and network applications
such as TCP/IP and SMTP (and, of course theirs that other small one
regarding taking over the world).

        What I think I'll try is downloading say, calamaris from an FTP
site directly to the Linux box and running it again. What do you think?
Do you have a URL of such an FTP site?
