You can't accelarate https because it requires a transparent, real
time, connection from browser to server for the SSL protocol to work.

One way of achieving acceleration is to move all the non-sensitive
GIFs, etc., onto an insecure site. Unfortunately, SSL browsers may
then nag you about secure/insecure tranitions.
