PRE releases

I've noticed quite a few people reporting problems with 2.2 PREn releases,
and I strongly suspect a lot of them don't know that the PRE means that it
may not be reliable.

Perhaps the squid web page could put some more warnings on the download
pages for pre-releases that they should wait for the RELEASE version if they
want something stable.

And similarly for people who only access via FTP or mirror FTP sites,
perhaps a file called CURRENT-STABLE-IS-2.1.PATCH2 could be put in
ftp://squid.nlanr.net/pub/squid-2/ along with a README explaining things
further, such as:

The latest stable version of squid is shown by the file
CURRENT-STABLE-IS-{whatever}. There may be versions of squid with higher
version numbers with PRE or maybe BETA in their names. If you want a stable
version
of squid you should ignore these files.

Use the diff* files to patch your current squid sources, preferably with GNU
patch (available from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/patch/ or a mirror site) using
the following command at the root of your squid sources:

gzip -d -c diff-{whatever}.gz | patch -p1

If you need to apply multiple patches, make sure you apply them in the
correct order.

Use md5s.txt to check whether the files you downloaded got corrupted. On
most systems you simply need to run "md5sum <filename>" to generate the
value that you should check against the contents of this file.
