DEAD Parent (even though it's not dead)

Im using squid-2.2STABLE4 (one as parent and the others as
siblings). I found a peculiar problem wherein the siblings retrieves
request most of the time DIRECTLY intstead of going thru the parent cache
even though the parent cache is up and happily serving request.
Looking at cache.log upon starting the siblings I found the
following lines (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx isthe ip of the parent squid)

Configuring Parent proxy proxy.mydomain.com/3128/3130
Ready to Serve Request
WARNING: Ignored 10 replies from non-peer xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
DETECTED DEAD Parent: proxy.mydomain.com/3128/3130

At this point it somtimes say that it detects a Revived DEAD parent.

FYI

System : linux 2.2.10
Squid Version: 2-2STABLE4
Network connection between proxies not congested

Hope somebody canhelp me on this.

TIA
Rodel
