Problem with proxy hierarchy

I am running squid2.2 Stable 2 in a Linux Red Hat 5.0 box and I get in
trouble configuring my proxy hierarchy. I put the following line in the
configuration of the "child" squid's:

cache_peer my_parent_host parent 3128 3130

I did no alteration on the parent host and there isn't a DENY line
blicking the acceds. When squid starts, It says something like
"configuring parent my_parent_host ports..." and everything looks fine
(squid works but don't comunnicate with its parent) . But after some
minutes I get the warning "detected DEAD parent my_parent_host", although
both squids are working well (but there is no communication between
them!).
Could you help me configuring my cache hierarchy? Is there some
configuration directive that I forgot ?

                                          Thanks for any help.
