Compilation on Mac OS X

Hello,

 I'm trying to get squid 2.3STABLE2 to compile on MacOS X Server. Has
anybody attempted/succeeded with this. I've got the distribution and changed
the instances of 'peer' to 'xpeer' as per a previous post however when I run
./configure I get an error saying there is no compiler present.

I'm logged in as root, using the Terminal.app. It's a standard install of
Mac OS X Server with the 1.0.2 update.

Any help appreciated.
